Export Import Basics

What is an Export Promotion Council (EPC)?

An Export Promotion Council (EPC) is a government-supported organization in India, set up under the Companies Act or Societies Registration Act, that works to promote and support the export of specific products or groups of products. EPCs act as a bridge between the Government and exporters.

Functions of Export Promotion Councils

  • Encourage and support exporters by providing guidance and market intelligence.
  • Organize trade fairs, buyer-seller meets, and exhibitions in India & abroad.
  • Help exporters with product development, quality improvement, and packaging.
  • Represent industry interests to the Government to shape export policies.
  • Issue Registration-Cum-Membership Certificates (RCMC) required to avail export incentives.

Why Register with an EPC?

If you are an exporter in India, it is mandatory to register with an appropriate EPC to:

  • Obtain RCMC.

  • Claim benefits under Foreign Trade Policy (FTP).

  • Get updates on international markets & export opportunities.
